Horseback Riding in Italy and Venice Day Trip

Last week Justin and I headed off to the foothills of the Italian Alps, about an hour outside of Venice, to a wonderful little horse ranch named Le Torresselle. It took a car, plane, bus and train to get there but it was well worth it and we dominated public transportation! We were the only people staying on the property at the time and it was very relaxing.

We took multi hour trail rides through the country, galloping through vineyards and eating the most amazing food I have ever tasted. Everything they serve is homemade! The black truffle risotto was the most amazing thing I have ever tasted, it is truffle season right now so everything was fresh. After every ride we relaxed with a few glasses of local Prosecco and each meal ended with homemade ice cream and a bit of limoncello. We attempted the grappa but it did not go down well! The horses were great little quarter horses that had been bred and raised on the farm. They were an absolute blast! For our last ride we rode our horses a few villages over to a local restaurant, tied our horses outside and sat down to a local Italian meal. I swear if we had stayed in Italy any longer I would have gained about 20 lbs, the food is that incredible!

The last day we were in Italy our plane was leaving late in the evening so we hopped on the train to spend a couple of hours exploring Venice. Venice is such a unique city! All the canals were fascinating and although we didn't have enough time to take a gondola ride we did take a water bus. We had just enough time to see St. Marks Square and cathedral before heading to the airport. Italy was incredible and I highly recommend Le Torreselle if you want to experience the authentic local Italian culture, food and a great horseback riding experience!

  1. I told you that you would love it! It is such a cool place and you are right....staying there will put on the poundage! I should have told you about an incredible leather shop in venice. Glad you guys had an amazing trip, oops. But, you are better off financially for not knowing about it. We would like to do the horseback trip sometime as well. Maybe through Tuscany. All your latest trips look like a ton of fun. What a way to end your adventure in Europe!
